“Power tends to corrupt. Absolute power corrupts absolutely.”
Lord Acton, British historian.
If Props A Through H Fail To Be Approved by The Voters, What Will Happen?
If voters see through the politicians’ smoke screen and vote NO to Props A through H, you can rest assured that:
- The rosy economic forecast for Houston touted by the mayor relative to Props A through H will, in fact, actually occur---but because Props A through H were NOT APPROVED!
- The Houston economy will greatly improve as a result of the City government NOT taking an ever-increasing piece of the Houston economic pie, because of the following factors.
- Voters will retain their recently won (2004 Prop 2 Taxpayer Bill Of Rights) right to say how much in total that the City can take from them in the way of taxes, water and sewer charges, fees, etc.
- The pre-2004 political power will not return to the politicians and their principal political contributors---those who do business with the City and the self-anointed power brokers.
- As a result, the City will NOT return to the pre-Prop 2 TABOR days of out-of-control borrowing and spending, and soaking the taxpayer, when:
- During a 20 year period:
- City revenues and spending mushroomed at twice the combined growth rate of population and inflation.
- City long-term debt exploded at more than four times the combined growth rate of population and inflation.
- In the 1980s, the City’s water rates increased 119% and its sewer rates 161%, making them the highest rates of any of the US ten largest cities, where they still stand today.
- Property tax revenues jumped 51% from 1994 to 2002.
- Props A through F will NOT add $625 million more to the City’s approximately $10 billion long-term debt, which, on a per inhabitant basis, already is more than 2.5 times the debt of the financially devastated State of California government.
- It WILL cause the City to address the ticking pension plan funding and related long-term debt time bomb.
- Crime WILL decrease! Because the mayor and police chief will be forced by the VOTERS to properly manage the police department overall, demand accountability and performance by the upper and middle management of HPD, strategically deploy HPD police officers, and transfer police officers from desk assignments to on the street assignments.
So, Don’t Be Fooled!
VOTE NO TO ALL 8 CITY PROPOSITIONS A THROUGH H!
