“Power tends to corrupt. Absolute power corrupts absolutely.”
Lord Acton, British historian.

If Props A Through H Are Approved by The Voters, What Will Happen?

If voters are tricked into approving the politicians’ Props A through H, you can rest assured that:

  • The results will be just the opposite of the rosy prospects touted by the mayor relative to Props A through H.
  • The Houston economy will greatly suffer as a result of the City government taking an ever-increasing piece of the Houston economic pie, because of the following factors.
  • No longer will voters have the recently won (2004 Prop 2 Taxpayer Bill Of Rights) complete say so as to how much money in total that the City can take from you in the way of taxes, water and sewer charges, fees, etc.
  • Instead, the politicians’ Props A through H will return the pre-2004 power to the politicians and their principal political contributors---those who do business with the City and the self-anointed power brokers.
  • As a result, the City will return to the pre-Prop 2 TABOR days of out-of-control borrowing and spending, and soaking the taxpayer, when:
    • During a 20 year period:
      • City revenues and spending mushroomed at twice the combined growth rate of population and inflation.
      • City long-term debt exploded at more than four times the combined growth rate of population and inflation.
      • In the 1980s, the City’s water rates increased 119% and its sewer rates 161%, making them the highest rates of any of the US ten largest cities, where they still stand today.
      • Property tax revenues jumped 51% from 1994 to 2002.
  • Props A through F will add $625 million more to the City’s approximately $10 billion long-term debt, which, on a per inhabitant basis, already is more than 2.5 times the debt of the financially devastated State of California government.
  • The City will not address the ticking pension plan funding and related long-term debt time bomb until it is disastrously too late.
  • Crime will not decrease as a result of Prop H. It will not decrease until the mayor and police chief properly manage the police department overall, demand accountability and performance by the upper and middle management of HPD, strategically deploy HPD police officers, and transfer police officers from desk assignments to on the street assignments.

Don’t Be Fooled!

VOTE NO TO ALL 8 CITY PROPOSITIONS A THROUGH H!
